BAM Talk: The circus in art history, a focus on Calder
On the occasion of the third edition of BAM Circus – The Marvels at the Park Festival, BAM is collaborating with Fondazione Calder to relate the relationship the great 20th century artist Alexander Calder had with the circus.
There will be a talk to discover the bond between visual and circus art, followed by the screening of “Calder’s 1927 Great Circus”, the film by Jean Paileve that relates the miniature circus of the great sculptor Alexander Calder: a magical small-scale world made up of tiny sculptures, human figures and little animals made using poor materials, metal wire, twine, rubber, rags and other recycled objects.
It is magic closed up in a small suitcase to create a sample collection of marvels.
