Documentary screening: “Calder’s 1927 Great Circus” by Jean Painlevé
More than 20 years after the construction of the miniature circus of Alexander Calder, Jean Painlevé shot this film, between 1953 and 1955, about the miniature circus, a small scale magical universe made up of small sculptures, human figures and little animals made out of poor materials, metal wire, twine, rubber, rags and other recycled objects. Calder himself took part in the role of Monsieur Loyal, omni present and omni powerful.
